R&S introduces the compact 4- and 8-channel MXO 3 Series, expanding its next-generation MXO oscilloscope portfolio. With an extremely compact form factor and a more accessible price, the MXO 3 delivers fast and precise advanced MXO technology previously available only in larger, higher-priced instruments. The oscilloscope enables engineers to observe details in the signal under test that comparable instruments cannot capture.

Fast

The entire MXO 3 Series features a real-time capture rate of up to 99%, up to 50 times higher than competing products, enabling engineers to instantly observe more signal details and rare events. Like other products in the MXO Series, the instrument uses R&S-developed MXO-EP dedicated integrated-circuit processing technology to deliver the following breakthrough performance:

• 4.5 million waveform acquisitions per second — the fastest speed in the industry, enabling instant capture of additional signal details and rare events.
• Up to 600,000 triggers per second with zone triggering — combines industry-leading speed with exceptional flexibility, enabling precise isolation of time-domain events, including mathematical operations and frequency-domain signals.
• 50,000 FFT operations per second — up to 1,000 times faster than other oscilloscopes, providing faster and more comprehensive analysis for applications such as EMI and harmonic testing.
• 600,000 mathematical operations per second — outstanding industry performance, up to 100,000 times faster than competing products, enabling accurate power analysis by multiplying signal voltage and current.

Precise

All MXO 3 models employ advanced technologies to ensure precise measurement isolation and reliable results:

• Hardware-based 12-bit vertical resolution at the full sample rate, enabling observation of subtle changes within large-amplitude signals and providing 16 times the resolution of conventional 8-bit oscilloscopes.
• High Definition mode (HD mode) reveals signal details hidden by noise, combining noise reduction with up to 18-bit vertical resolution — the highest in the industry. Unlike other oscilloscopes, this mode operates at the full sample rate in hardware, ensuring both accuracy and speed.
• The largest offset range in its class allows MXO 3 users to select the most sensitive vertical scale settings, reducing system noise while revealing more signal details. The instrument supports a ±3 V offset range at 1 mV/div on both 50 Ω and 1 MΩ input paths, delivering performance 2 to 3 times better than comparable flagship models.

Compact

The 4- and 8-channel MXO 3 oscilloscopes feature a compact and portable design, allowing flexible placement even on crowded workbenches. Their small footprint leaves more room for engineering creativity, while industry-leading low-noise performance — below whisper level — ensures a distraction-free working environment.

The MXO 3 Series oscilloscopes are available in 4-channel and 8-channel models, with bandwidth options of 100 MHz, 200 MHz, 350 MHz, 500 MHz and 1 GHz.

For users with more demanding requirements, the MXO 3 Series offers a variety of upgrade options, including 16 integrated digital channels supported by the mixed signal oscilloscope (MSO) option, a 50 MHz arbitrary waveform generator, protocol decoding and triggering for multiple industry-standard buses, and a frequency response analyzer function that expands the instrument’s testing capabilities.
