R&S and HungaroControl, the Hungarian national air navigation service provider, jointly announced during the CANSO Global Airspace Event that they have successfully deployed CERTIUM Locate nationwide. This cutting-edge technology developed by Rohde & Schwarz ensures full coverage and automatically identifies and accurately locates calling aircraft in the air. Air traffic controllers can use the positioning system to indicate the calling aircraft on the radar screen. Its advantage lies in visually identifying the calling object on the screen, avoiding confusion, improving situational awareness, and enhancing user experience and confidence.

• The deployed CERTIUM Locate system includes ATC direction finders and central management components installed across Hungary. The management console and distribution server software calculate the precise position of the calling aircraft almost in real-time and seamlessly provide it to the radar screen via the Asterix interface.

• To ensure seamless coverage while minimizing environmental impact and maximizing cost-effectiveness, Direction Finding (DF) stations are installed on top of existing telecommunications towers. Since telecom tower stations are readily available nationwide, this innovative approach simplifies the deployment process. Tower stations are ubiquitous across the country, and the tops are often empty, making them ideal for installing DF antennas. To further improve system efficiency, 11 air traffic control VHF radio stations are connected to the positioning server to suppress the impact of radio signal emissions from ground stations on operators' radar screens.
